I control Gideon Jura, and Rings of Brighthearth.

I activate Gideon's ultimate, then pay to copy it. What happens?

We either get Gideon animated twice, or the Rings of B will animate as well.

Whenever a card refers to itself by name is means "this permanent" so the ability reads "this permanent becomes a 6/6 blah Prevent all damage." If the Rings of B copies this ability, wouldn't it change to "this permanent" meaning the rings animate.

THOUGH if that's true, then whenever you copy a pump ability like "Chameleon Colussus gets +x/+x" wouldn't that then change to "Rings of BrH gets +x/+x", which is a useless ability on an artifact and quite counter intuitive.

The Lorwyn FAQ entry for Rings of Brighthearth :
QUOTE
# Copying an activated ability works just like copying a spell. The copy of the ability is put onto the stack (it's not "played"). It copies all decisions made when the original ability was played, including mode, targets, and the value of X. If an effect of the copy refers to something used to pay its costs, it sees what was used to pay the costs of the original ability.

# The source of the copy is the same as the source of the original ability. If the ability refers to a card or permanent by name (such as "Regenerate Drudge Skeletons"), the copy will refer to the same card or permanent.

# You may copy a planeswalker's ability. Doing so won't affect the planeswalker's loyalty because raising or lowering its loyalty is part of the cost of the ability, not part of its effect.

Darkur_Fox :
The source of the activated ability does not change.
Gideon would be animated twice.
For Chameleon Colossus he would get the +X/+X twice.

Awesome. I know this is a corner case but knowing is half the battle.
